The Digital Austria 2050 Strategic Action Plan puts forward initiatives targeted at improving digital skills for the labour force, general citizens, as well as in the education sector. The strategy foresees shaping education, training and lifelong learning in Austria as a digital competitive advantage.

The digital skills targets in the Action plan focus on following pillars:

Digital transformation of the educational system

That includes the optimisation of digital skills developed within national formal education systems, as well as the certification of digital skills development programmes, and the creation of modern, 21st century learning infrastructures at all levels of Austrian economy and society.

Lifelong transfer of knowledge and skills

The digital basic training will be specifically strengthened with interdisciplinary approaches in all areas of training and further education. Education in STEM subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology) at universities and technical colleges will be qualitatively and quantitatively geared towards the requirements of business and science.

Ensuring all citizens have basic digital skills

To ensure all citizens are equipped with basic digital skills, the Digital Austria Platform created the digital WIKI

The Digital Austria 2050 Strategic Action plan has been accepted in 2020 and it positions Austria as digital innovation region in Europe. The Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs of Austria is responsible for coordination and implementation of the Strategic Action Plan.

The Digital Action Plan of Austria provides the framework for effectively implementing important digitisation projects and measures across all industry, society and governmental sectors. The Action plan is developed to realise the mission: 'Austria wants and will use digitalisation in a targeted manner to develop competitiveness, innovation, prosperity, climate protection, health and cultural education'.
